As she kicks off the first full day of her online retreat, The Anchoress reminds us that today is the feast of St. Clare, patroness of television.Trust me: this is a medium urgently in need of heavenly intercession!
The Anchoress offers us these saintly words to carry us through the day:
What you hold, may you [always] hold,
what you do, my you [always] do and never
abandon.
But with swift pace, light step,
unswerving feet,
so that even your steps stir up no dust,
may you go forward
securely, joyfully, and swiftly,
on the path of prudent happiness,
not believing anything,
not agreeing with anything
that would dissuade you from this resolution
or that would place a stumbling block for you
on the way…
— St. Clare of Assisi
what you do, my you [always] do and never
abandon.
But with swift pace, light step,
unswerving feet,
so that even your steps stir up no dust,
may you go forward
securely, joyfully, and swiftly,
on the path of prudent happiness,
not believing anything,
not agreeing with anything
that would dissuade you from this resolution
or that would place a stumbling block for you
on the way…
— St. Clare of Assisi

St Clare wrote this to her sisters in the convent. In her lines "What you hold" she is referring to Christ Himself - their acceptance of a life of holy poverty, chastity and self abandonment of will to fully hold onto Jesus Himself.
Their resolution, as she writes, is to embrace the Rule and religious life, to embrace Christ fully and without holding anything back, and allowing nothing to come between them and their desire to belong only to Jesus in religious life.
Beautiful poetic words.
